Amber R. Allen

Amber R. Allen is a seasoned communications consultant, writer, entrepreneur, and community advocate with over 15 years of experience in journalism, public sector communications, consulting, and nonprofit work. She also holds advanced certification in yoga instruction. Born and raised in Iowa, Amber graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in journalism and mass communication and has called Charleston, S.C., home since 2010. Long- and short-form copywriting for websites, campaigns, newsletters, and print materials, with a focus on accessible, accurate, and emotionally resonant narratives. Editing and message development that sharpens complex ideas into language that feels authentic to leaders, teams, and the communities they serve. Ghostwriting for executives and subject-matter experts, including op-eds, speeches, and thought-leadership pieces that align with organizational values and goals.  

Strategy, campaigns, and issues  

Development of communications and marketing strategies for organizations, including goal setting, audience definition, key messaging, and channel planning. Management of complex initiatives from concept through launch, coordinating timelines, content, and collaborators with an organized approach. Experience in crisis and issues communications, crafting grounded updates that maintain trust and provide meaningful context in fast-moving situations.  

Community, mental health, and maternal health work 

Advocacy and storytelling around mental and maternal health, informed by lived experiences and years of journaling and reflective writing. Creation of spaces—online and in person—where people, especially mothers, can share their stories without shame and feel seen, supported, and connected. Educational writing and content development for perinatal mental health and community-focused organizations, centering on the wellbeing of children and families.

Leadership recognized through honors such as the American Association of Birth Centers Community Award and selection to the Leadership South Carolina Class of 2024.
