Amber helps families and mission-driven leaders tell clear, honest stories. She does this through two core offerings: Writing and Ghostwriting for individuals and families to preserve stories of family resilience, and Communications Consulting for executives, businesses,  and nonprofits to clarify your story, communicate with your audience, and prepare for the hard questions -- before and during a crisis.

writing & ghostwriting

Amber Allen uses a laptop, with a coffee mug nearby. Amber Allen offers crisis communication consulting, legacy biography writing, media training, organizational communications support, story strategy, and reflective writing workshops.

Documenting your legacy

Amber offers several tiers of legacy biography, ghostwriting, or editing to capture family stories. These are stories that your children or grandchildren won't have to guess about what you survived, learned, and loved. This is a structured process so the stories emerge out of your head and gathered into one place. You talk, and Amber will guide and shape a manuscript or collection your family can read and return to in the future. The finished product will be captured stories about hard seasons, joy, and everything that comes in between. This service can also be applied to memorials or obituaries of loved ones or pets.

Reflective writing workshops

As a lifelong keeper of a journal, Amber knows how powerful and healing it can be to get our feelings out of our head and onto paper. She offers workshops -- either standalone or as a series -- to people who want to explore their creativity or the depths of their emotions. With her background as a peer group facilitator, as well as an advanced yoga instructor, she provides respectful guidance and prompts that help people open up and start to let the words flow.

COMMUNICATIONS Consulting

Amber Allen speaks at a news conference with Charleston County Sheriff's Office backdrop. Amber Allen offers crisis communication consulting and media training when it counts.

Media training

With more than 15 years of experience of writing news stories or fielding questions from a gaggle of reporters, Amber knows what it takes to give an effective interview. It's not an easy task when you're in the hot seat, even if it's a "friendly" story. You need to anticipate the questions and how you want to answer them to look and sound your best. Media training is perfect for businesses, nonprofit organizations, and leaders who want to shine in front of the camera or in print.

Amber also offer crisis communication consulting, either on retainer or rapid response in the event of an emergency. Every minute counts, and the clock ticks fast when you've got questions piling up.

These sessions can be one-on-one or in small team sessions. At the conclusion, you can face interviews, panels, and tough meetings without spinning out.

Story strategy and messaging

Does your website need a refresh, or is your organization's voice getting lost? Are you launching a business or a new nonprofit? Amber can help you make sure you're telling the full story: who you are, who you serve, and why you matter. At the conclusion, you'll have a clear core story, key messages, and language that appeals to your target audience.

Executive and thought leader support

This service is for executives, community leaders, entrepreneurs, or others who have a big speech coming up or want to put an influential op-ed in the local paper. Amber has a winning track record of capturing a person's voice, getting their piece published, and inspiring the audience to take action. If you want people to mobilize, contact her to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out at amber@theamberallen.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

AI tools can be helpful for capturing raw transcripts or organizing basic timelines, but they can’t replace a real, nuanced relationship with a human story partner. When you work with Amber, you’re not just feeding information into a system—you’re sitting with someone who listens asks follow-up questions, and notices when you’re not digging enough.

Amber helps you find the deeper meaning in your memories, connect events into a coherent arc, and decide what belongs in the story and what’s better left in the background. Amber can gently challenge you, reflect patterns you might not see, and support you through emotional moments as they arise. Most importantly, she is committed to preserving your voice and values, not flattening them into a generic template.

AI will never be able to replace real human connection, and that connection is something many of us are deeply lacking right now. The experience of being truly heard and accompanied while you tell your story is part of the transformation; the finished book is only one piece of the value.

Amber starts with a free discovery call to understand your story, goals, and ideal audience. From there, you and Amber will choose the right memoir tier and map out a realistic timeline and payment schedule.

The work begins with a structured intake session where Amber and you outline the major arcs of your life—childhood, work, family, turning points, losses, and wins. Then you two move into recorded interviews, usually in 60–90 minute conversations; Amber asks thoughtful follow-up questions to help you remember the sensory details and emotional texture of your story.

After each round of interviews, she transcribes, sifts, and shapes your words into chapters in your voice. You receive drafts at agreed checkpoints so you can react, correct, and add missing pieces. We move through one or more rounds of revisions together until the manuscript feels true to you. In higher tiers, Amber can also support light fact-checking, simple layout, and guidance on printing or sharing the finished book with your family or community.

Yes. In addition to full ghostwriting, Amber offers Guided Legacy Writing packages for people who want to write their own story with a coach by their side.

In these programs, you are the primary writer and she acts as your story architect, coach, and editor. You and Amber meet regularly to outline your book, choose which scenes to tell, and give you tailored prompts and “homework” between sessions. You send her pages as you go; she edits for structure, clarity, and flow while keeping your natural voice on the page.

Guided Legacy Writing is a great fit if you want accountability, structure, and professional feedback but still want your hands on the keyboard.

Communications consulting is about making sure your words match your mission and reach the people you’re trying to serve. Amber helps executives, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and clinics tell clear, compassionate stories about who they are, what they do, and why it matters.

This can look like: clarifying your key messages, tightening website copy, improving letters to donors or parents, refreshing program descriptions, or supporting you through a sensitive announcement or crisis. Amber becomes a thought partner who can see the big picture and translate it into language your audience actually understands and responds to.

The result is more confident communication: staff and leaders are aligned on what you’re saying, your community knows what you offer, and your writing feels like a true reflection of your values.

A one-time messaging audit is a snapshot. Amber reviews a defined set of materials—usually your website, a handful of emails or newsletters, and one or two social channels—and delivers a written report with specific recommendations. You get a clear picture of what’s working, what’s confusing, and a prioritized list of changes to make. This is ideal if you want expert eyes on your communications but have internal capacity to implement the fixes.

An ongoing communications retainer is a relationship. Instead of a single report, she partners with you month after month on planning, writing, and refining your messaging in real time. That might mean drafting newsletters, ghostwriting thought-leadership pieces, helping you prepare for events or campaigns, or being on call for tricky announcements. This is best if you’re juggling a lot, don’t have a dedicated communications staff member, or want consistent, on-brand writing support without hiring in-house.

Every workshop is slightly different, but most follow a gentle, structured arc: arrive, ground, explore, and close.

A typical journaling workshop includes a short guided arrival (breath or visualization), a brief teaching segment on the theme (for example: resilience, transition, grief, or self-compassion), and several rounds of guided writing. Amber offers specific prompts, time to write quietly, and optional sharing (never required). The session ends with a simple closing ritual so people leave feeling grounded, not raw.

A yoga-and-writing workshop weaves in accessible movement and mindfulness.

The group might begin with breath and slow stretches, move into a journaling sequence, and alternate between gentle postures and reflection. These sessions are beginner-friendly; they are designed for all bodies and writing levels, not just “writers” or seasoned yogis.

Yes. She can design sessions for nonprofits, schools, health systems, retreats, and small businesses. Together you would choose a focus (for example: caregiver resilience, staff burnout, leadership transitions, healing after crisis, or creative play), and Amber tailors the prompts, pacing, and language to your audience. Workshops can be journal-only, yoga-and-writing, or simply reflective conversation with structured questions.

The sessions can be in person in the Charleston, S.C. region (and beyond, if travel is covered) or online via Zoom. Amber can also help you sequence a series—for example, a monthly gathering over a season or a three-part staff wellbeing series.

Amber's pricing reflects the depth of attention she brings to each project and is rooted in clear, transparent scopes of work.

  • Memoir and legacy projects are usually quoted as package fees based on interview hours, estimated word count, and level of support (ghostwriting vs. guided writing and editing).
  • Communications consulting and messaging audits may be packaged (for an audit or intensive) or offered via a monthly retainer.
  • Workshops are priced per session or per series, with adjustments for group size, materials, and travel.

Because every story and organization is different, Amber almost always creates a custom proposal after a brief conversation. That proposal outlines scope, deliverables, timeline, and payment schedule so you know exactly what you’re investing in before the relationship commences.

Yes. Amber offers a short, complimentary discovery call for new clients.

This call is a chance to explore your goals, make sure her services are a good fit, and talk through the right format—memoir ghostwriting, guided legacy writing, communications support, or workshops. There’s no obligation; she will ask you a few questions, answer any you have, and, if it’s a match, suggest a next step and a rough investment range.

If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, Amber is always happy to point you toward other resources when she can.

Absolutely.

You might begin with a mini memoir instead of a full book, a one-time messaging audit instead of a retainer, or a single workshop for your team before planning a full series. This lets you experience how Amber works, get a tangible result, and a chance to decide whether you’d like deeper support.

If you decide to upgrade into a larger package, she can often roll part or all of your initial investment into the new engagement, so you’re not paying twice for the same work.
